First Gold Humanism Honor Society chapter created at Marshall University

Twelve 4th-year Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine students and four faculty will be inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) on Monday, Sept. 10, marking creation of the first GHHS chapter at Marshall University.   Special guests include Drs. Arnold P. and Sandra Gold, who created the Arnold P. Gold Foundation in 1988 in an effort to nurture and preserve the tradition of the caring physician.   In addition to starting the GHHS, the Gold Foundation is also credited with creating the White Coat Ceremony, a rite of passage which takes place at nearly 90 percent of all medical schools in the country.   The new president and CEO of the Gold Foundation, Dr. Richard I. Levin, also will attend the ceremony.
