Today, Governor Justice issued a proclamation declaring the second Saturday in September as Heroes Day in West Virginia.
Recognizing our state’s first responders, Governor Justice said “These selfless heroes put others before themselves and deserve to be honored not only for one day but every day. These incredible men and women represent the very best of West Virginia.”
During the past year, two firefighters from the Pratt Volunteer Fire Department lost their lives in the line of duty and other first responders have been severely injured.
“Our great state is filled with heroes from all walks of life who work on the front lines and put their own lives at risk 24, 7, to keep our communities safe and respond to a crisis at the drop of the hat,” Governor Justice added.
“On September 8th I look forward to joining all West Virginians in saluting and honoring all of our state’s first responders. They are our true heroes.”
In 2015, the West Virginia House of Delegates passed a resolution (HR16) designating the second Saturday of September as Heroes Day.
