Marino Earns Certified Medicare Secondary Payer Professional Certification

Attorney Briana J. Marino, an associate in the Charleston, West Virginia office of Babst Calland, has earned the designation as a Certified Medicare Secondary Payer Professional (CMSP). Marino earned this designation by demonstrating a high level of proficiency and knowledge in the area of Medicare Secondary Payer Compliance issues and by successfully completing the requirements and examinations established by LASIE.

The CMSP program is one of a few credentialing programs in the insurance, liability and workers’ compensation industries designed to identify those individuals with superior knowledge and skills in the field of Medicare Secondary Payer compliance issues, including Medicare repayment and set-aside issues. Candidates for the CMSP certification must successfully complete 36 hours of classroom training, examinations and a Medicare Set-Aside case study submission.

Marino has experience applying Medicare Secondary Payer laws, regulations and administrative decisions to litigation and non-litigation matters. She is knowledgeable and well-versed in applicable laws, regulations, case law and administrative decisions concerning conditional payment reimbursement, analysis of future medical care and the need for Liability Medicare Set-Aside accounts, and the requirements and implementation of Medicare, Medicaid and S-CHIP Extension Act of 2007 Section 111 reporting issues.

Marino earned her J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law is admitted to practice in West Virginia and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia. She is a member of the Kanawha County and West Virginia Bar Associations and the West Virginia Bar. She has taught, and continues to teach, Medicare compliance topics at continuing legal education programs and through private sessions across West Virginia.
