The West Virginia Republican Legislative Committee (WVRLC) has named Kanawha County Delegate Moore Capito as the group’s new chairman.

The WVRLC is the official campaign committee for Republican members of the West Virginia House of Delegates. Capito’s election to chairman was by a unanimous vote.

“West Virginia is on a realistic path forward that should give every West Virginian hope for the future.  House Republicans are focused on leveraging our strengths and developing strategies to uncover new opportunities,” Capito said.

“I am honored to serve as chairman of the WVRLC. I look forward to ensuring our legislature is led by Republicans that are committed to making West Virginia the best place in America to live, work, raise and educate our children, and retire in safe communities,” Capito said.

Capito also praised the work of his predecessor, Delegate Eric Nelson. “I am honored to call Eric a friend and delighted he has agreed to stay on board with the WVRLC to ensure a smooth transition.”  Nelson established the WVRLC in 2014 to recruit and support quality Republican candidates.  “He played a pivotal role in obtaining a Republican majority in the House, and now it is our job to keep it.”

Other members elected to the WVRLC leadership team include Delegate Erikka Storch of Ohio County, Delegate Steve Westfall of Jackson County, Delegate Ben Queen of Harrison County, Delegate Matt Rohrbach of Cabell County, Delegate Joshua Higginbotham of Putnam County and Delegate Jeff Pack of Raleigh County. Speaker Roger Hanshaw, Majority Leader Amy Summers, and former Chairman Eric Nelson are also members of the WVRLC leadership team.

“The WVRLC leadership team is a strong group of dedicated Republican legislators from around the state,” Speaker Hanshaw said.

“Working together, we will increase our membership in the House by recruiting accomplished and dedicated West Virginians to seek election to the House of Delegates.”
