Charleston natives Jean Hanna Davis and Eric Douglas have released a new book that takes a look inside breast cancer. In the spring of 2013, Davis was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in 10 years. The first time, she was pregnant with her second child. This time, her daughter helped her through the process. Throughout it all, Jean’s mantra was “Keep on, Keeping on.”

“Last year, Jean offered me the opportunity to sit with her during her chemotherapy treatments and record her thoughts and feelings. At the time we didn’t know exactly how it would turn out, but we both felt sure women faced with a diagnosis of breast cancer, along with their families and friends, could gain some insight from Jean’s experiences,” Douglas said. “This book provides a tremendous look inside the emotions and physical reactions to breast cancer. It isn’t all sunshine and roses.”

The book includes interviews, stories, Facebook posts (to begin each chapter), essays written by Jean and private thoughts recorded in the evenings or on the way to her chemo appointments.

“When I found out that I had cancer for the second time in 10 years, I wanted to do something more. More than what, I wasn’t sure. Since my friend Eric Douglas is an author, it seemed like a logical step to ask him to be part of this leg of the journey. I hope this book can provide some inspiration, some information, and some comfort to those who need it. Keep on keepin’ on…” Davis said.

The book is available on Amazon and other online retailers in softcover for $5.99 and as a Kindle ebook for $2.99. Find the links at www.booksbyeric.com.

Douglas and Davis will donate a dollar for every book sold up to the Susan G. Komen of West Virginia Walk for the Cure in Charleston on May 3, 2014. http://www.komenwv.org/
