As we celebrate the 150th Birthday of our Home Among the Hills – West Virginia, the West Virginia Grantmakers kicks off today our year-long series titled “Sharing the Helm of the Mountain”.  While we honor, recognize, and celebrate the past 150 years, we look with anticipation, energy and commitment to fostering a strong next 150 years filled with prosperity and progress for our state’s citizens and communities from all corners of the Mountain State.

“Sharing the Helm of the Mountain” looks toward West Virginia’s future and no other sector is more concerned about the state’s future than philanthropy and foundations. By our basic existence, foundations and the collective philanthropic sector are institutions created to invest in today and the future.  We look at solving issues for the long-term, benefiting our citizens and communities.

At this special time, we release the first of our weekly Guest Op-Eds from both established and rising leaders on key issues for our state. As an established leader, we are honored to have senior U.S. Senator John D. Rockefeller, IV kick off the series with a guest Op-Ed focused on Public Service.  Our thanks to the Senator for the following contribution.  We look forward to building strong partnerships to make West Virginia the strongest, most vibrant, and prosperous home for all of our citizens.  Stay tuned for future contributions.
