It has been nearly 25 years since our country began recognizing April 22nd as Earth Day.  Holidays are a means to remind our culture of what we came from and where we are going; Earth Day is no different.  This annual event reminds us that we should celebrate the natural resources with which we have been blessed and encourage our society to move toward a cleaner, more eco-friendly energy future.

The Thrasher Group, Inc. (Thrasher), a Bridgeport, WV-based Mid-Atlantic consulting engineering, architectural and technical services firm, announced on Earth Day 2014 that it is launching an NGV (Natural Gas Vehicle) pilot program.  The program is being implemented to determine the long-term feasibility of using natural gas across the entire fleet of roughly 135 vehicles.

In the past ten years, Thrasher has become a major service provider to the Mid-Atlantic region’s natural gas industry.  Its work in the oil and gas sector is one of the key motivating factors behind the launch of its responsible energy campaign.  The company recognizes that the benefits of operating an environmental-friendly fleet reach far beyond tax incentives and operational costs.  Natural gas vehicles generally omit 20-25% less greenhouse gases than that of a comparable gasoline or diesel-powered vehicle.  This conscious reduction in man-made greenhouse gas emissions is something that benefits everyone.

Woody Thrasher, president, noted, “The opportunity to utilize the natural gas we are helping our clients produce and develop is a great way to support a healthy environment.  I cannot think of a better way to give back to the industry and area we support than to use clean natural gas produced and transported from our region. It just makes sense.”

Thrasher’s NGV fleet will grow incrementally as the pilot program matures. Thrasher’s long-term goal is to have a majority of fleet vehicles that are powered by natural gas.
