National Volunteer Week is April 6 – 12, 2014.  In recognition of the support that volunteers, auxilians and chaplains provide to hospital staff, patients, families, and the community, the University Healthcare executive team hosted luncheons to honor members of the Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center volunteer organizations.

On Monday, the Berkeley Medical Center volunteers, auxilians, and chaplains were honored during a luncheon at the Holiday Inn in Martinsburg while the Jefferson Medical Center volunteers, auxilians and chaplains were treated to a luncheon in the hospital’s first floor conference room.

As part of both annual luncheons, volunteers were recognized for hours of service to the medical centers over the past year.  Members of the hospital auxiliary, the organization that plans fundraisers in support of the hospitals, were recognized for the financial support they provide the hospitals.  The chaplains at both facilities were honored for their volunteer efforts in providing spiritual support for patients, families and staff.

In addition to recognizing the volunteers for their efforts year round, National Volunteer Week is also an opportunity for University Healthcare to create an awareness of volunteer opportunities within the hospitals.
