It has now been two weeks since the flood and cleanup and recovery efforts are likely to continue for many more weeks.  So many businesses and individuals have stepped up with tremendous support and have made the recovery process a little easier for so many.  Some of you have asked what others are doing to help so we thought we would share a few of the other stories to help generate ideas:

  • BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Company immediately stepped up to help and has contributed over $500,000 to flood relief efforts.  In addition, BrickStreet provided truckloads of boots and cleaning tools and supplies that were urgently needed.
  • CSX Corporation has donated over $100,000 directly to flood relief efforts and has also of pre-paid property taxes for the second half of 2016 and the first half of 2017 in order to get more cash flow into local governments.
  • Appalachian Power Company is paying for the electrical inspectors needed to check homes before power can be restored.
  • Frontier Communications provided all phone lines and the 800 number at no cost for last Friday’s telethon to raise money for flood victims.
  • National Travel has donated $5,000 to help replace uniforms for school bands and athletics.
  • Tri-State Service Center has donated the use of excavating equipment and operators to help clear debris and mud.
  • Toyota Motor Manufacturing of West Virginia has sent large teams of volunteers into flooded areas to assist with cleanup efforts.
  • West Virginia American Water worked non-stop to restore water service to areas where service was disrupted due to the flood waters.  Thanks to their efforts, all water service was restored by Friday, July 1st.
  • The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce sent multiple truckloads of requested supplies to relief centers in flood-damaged areas and also served over 1,250 meals on the 4th of July to volunteers and residents in the Clendenin area.
  • Leadership WV delivered a trailer of much needed supplies to the Greenbrier County region on Friday.

If your business or someone you know has helped donate to flood relief efforts, please let us know as we are compiling a list and want to help spread the word.  We are also encouraging the use of #LetsRebuildTogether for social media posts on flood relief efforts.  Our goal is to help spread awareness of areas still in need and ways people are stepping up to help.  Thank you for your continued support for the people of West Virginia.
