Mid-Ohio Valley job seekers visiting the Workforce Investment Board location at the Lakeview Center in Parkersburg can now use an interactive kiosk to learn more about education and training opportunities available through West Virginia University at Parkersburg. The sleek, touch-screen kiosk allows individuals to submit an enrollment application with the touch of a button.
“Because Workforce serves many of the same counties as the college, this seemed like a great way to inform residents of all that we have to offer,” said Dr. Rhonda Tracy, interim president for WVU Parkersburg. “While many have heard about the high-paying jobs coming to our region, people might not know what skills and credentials are necessary to get hired. We hope this tool will be the first step toward finding that new career.”
Officials at the college worked with kiosk designer ZIVELO to develop a custom machine that can be relocated as needed. Users can navigate the WVU Parkersburg website to learn about academic programs are offered, potential career and training opportunities, and more. They can also submit interest forms to get in touch with faculty for more information regarding specific programs. When the kiosk is not in use, a brief video plays as a screensaver.
“Businesses are looking for quality workers with technical skills. Making job seekers aware of the need for training is a part of helping prepare the workforce for current and future job opportunities,” said Joyce Okes, program director for Workforce Investment Board Mid-Ohio Valley. “Having access to WVU Parkersburg’s information on site helps seamlessly connect job seekers to training opportunities.”
