Charles “Skip” Hageboeck, President and CEO of City Holding Company (NASDAQ: CHCO), will speak in the College of Business and Economics (B&E) Distinguished Speaker Series on Jan. 28 at West Virginia University.

Hageboeck, who lives in Charleston, W.Va., is also the President & CEO of City National Bank, which ranks as one of the largest 100 publicly traded banks in the United States. Based on virtually any financial metric, City has consistently been among the best performing banks in the country throughout the last decade.

“Many people don’t know that one of the largest publicly traded banks in the country is right here in West Virginia, and that is City National Bank,” said Jose “Zito” Sartarelli, B&E Milan Puskar Dean. “To head this bank and the holding company that manages this bank requires leadership and vision, and I anticipate Mr. Hageboeck’s message will be unique and meaningful to the University and local communities.”

The B&E Distinguished Speaker Series is presented in part by Wells Fargo. Hageboeck will speak at 9 a.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms. The event is free and open to the public.

Hageboeck, an Indiana native, became the Chief Financial Officer of City in 2001 at a critical time in the company’s history – with the company operating under a formal agreement with its regulator and considered by many to be in danger of failing. Following the turnaround, Hageboeck was named President and CEO in 2005. Under his leadership, City National has gone from a financially troubled institution to bank recognized in the industry for its stability.

Prior to joining City, Hageboeck was the CFO of Peoples Bank in Indianapolis, which sold to Fifth Third Bank at a record-setting price in 1999. He began his banking career at Indiana National Bank as a financial analyst, and rose quickly through the ranks to head the Asset/Liability Management Committee, which was responsible for managing the bank’s loans, deposits, investments, wholesale borrowing, liquidity, interest rate risk and capitalization.

Hageboeck holds a doctorate in economics from Indiana University and received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Butler University. He is active in community affairs, including serving as the incoming Chairman of the West Virginia Banker’s Association. He is a member of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee and Chairman of the state chamber’s Education Working Group, Treasurer of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the Board of Directors of Thomas Hospital in Charleston.

Hageboeck and his wife Samantha are the parents of four children.
