WHAT:Â The West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, Adventure WV and the U.S. Geologic Survey will host the Appalachian Geoscience GeoCamp June 17 – 21.
WHEN/WHERE:
Monday (June 18):Â
- BioBlitz and Zipline Canopy Tour, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., WVU Research Forest
- The event that focuses on identifying as many species as possible in designated area over a short period of time.
- Basic Rock Types Field Exercise, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Coopers Rock State Forest
Wednesday (June 20):
- GIS Field Mapping Activity, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Coopers Rock State Forest
- Structure from Motion Hiking Transect, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Coopers Rock State Forest
Geared toward high school students, the five-day, four-night summer adventure will cover topics like orienteering, topographic and geologic mapping, forest ecology and more.
Students will stay at WVU’s Outdoor Education Center with lodging in yurts. The forests, rivers, caves and terrain around Morgantown provide a perfect environment for exploration and learning while immersed in nature.
