Tu-Endie-Wei State Park Participates in Battle Days at Point Pleasant

Tu-Endie-Wei State Park will participate in the annual Battle Days celebration at Point Pleasant Friday, Oct. 7, through Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016. The weekend activities celebrate the 241th anniversary of the Battle of Point Pleasant which occurred Oct. 10, 1774.

The play, “Maid of the Mist,” will be presented Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the park. Maid of the Mist features speakers commemorating the important persons and moments of the Battle of Point Pleasant.

The Battle Day Parade is Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. on Main Street at 10th street. The Colonial Governor’s Reception will be held at the American Legion Post 23 facilities at 100 Second Street beginning at 6 p.m. The cost is $20 per person and reservations are recommended. The Colonial Ball follows the reception from 8 until 10 p.m. This event is free of charge. Colonial attire is encouraged but not required for both events. The Colonial Reception and Ball are organized and sponsored by the Point Pleasant Chapter of West Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution. An outdoor Early Colonial Church Service will be held at Tu-Endie-Wei State Park Sunday morning, followed by a luncheon for compatriots and their ladies at 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion facilities at 100 Second Street. The cost is $25 per person.

The Memorial Service to commemorate the Battle of Point Pleasant will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tu-Endie-Wei State Park. The guest speaker is Compatriot J. Michael Tomme, president general of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR). NSSAR district vice presidents, generals, state presidents and their compatriots, color guard units and Daughters of the American Revolution and Children of the American Revolution will be in attendance at this formal public ceremony.

There will be a wreath-laying ceremony during the Memorial Service. NSSAR Rules of Protocol will be followed in presenting the colors and wreaths. Those officials participating will present their respective colors and wreaths at the magazine located in Point Pleasant Tu-Endie-Wei State Park.
