West Virginia State University (WVSU) President Brian O. Hemphill will deliver his second State of the University address at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, in the P. Ahmed Williams Auditorium, Ferrell Hall.

The address is open to WVSU students, faculty, staff and alumni as well as community leaders and members.

“This year has been a momentous one of growth in academics and infrastructure and I am eager to share with the State family where we are as a University today and were we are going in the future,” Hemphill said of the upcoming State of the University address. “This will be more than a reflection, but also a celebration of what is to come.”

Hemphill will address student, faculty and staff accomplishments during the past year, while at the same time reviewing some of the major developments that have occurred on campus such as the groundbreaking for a new residence hall and the construction of a new convocation center at Fleming Hall.

The President will also talk about the increase the University has seen in philanthropic giving which went from $620,000 in fiscal year 2012, to more than $2.25 million in fiscal year 2013.

In addition, the University saw a surge in its first-time full-time freshmen enrollment numbers this fall which were up nearly 50 percent from fall 2012.

Hemphill is also expected to make a major announcement during the State of the University of a new program to promote research activities at WVSU.
